In Memoriam Herman Gray May 7, 1928 Herman was a Charter Member of the Board of Directors of the Laurel County Fire Department, Inc. of London, Kentucky. He served in the capacity of Vice Chairman of the Board for 11 years. Herman also served several years as a firefighter and Treasurer prior to the formation of the Board of Directors. He has dedicated his life to serving the people of Laurel County. He was actively involved in numerous fraternal and civic organizations. Herman was a Past Master of McKee Lodge No. 144 F. &A.M. and Bush Lodge No. 703 F. &A.M. He had served on several state committees and offices of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky Free and Accepted Masons. He was Past President of the Laurel Co. Shrine Club and a member of Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington, Ky. He was a Past President of the London Scottish Rite Association and a member of the Covington Scottish Rite Consistory having recieved numerous honors for his service including the prestigious title of 32nd. degree Knight Commander of the Court of Honor. Herman was a member of London Chapter of the U.C.T. and served on the U.C.T. Executive Committee for Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. for several years. |
He was a Life Member of the Board of the Directors of the Kentucky Vocational Technical College. And supported many youth related organizations.
Herman retired as a supervisor for Jackson Co. Rural Electric Cooperative after 47 years of service.
He was preceeded in death by his life long companion, Patty Jo Gray. He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Kenneth, and four daughters, Nancy Watkins, Sue Proffitt, Ann Price and Kay Whitaker, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and a great many friends.
The Laurel County Fire Department will never be able to replace Herman Gray but we shall always remember his smile, laugh and the close friendship we each shared with him.
